We will stand before God to give an account of ourselves. This chronicle is not going to be easy and in many cases, excruciating if the practice of your life was to deny your failings in any given relationship and/or circumstance. In God’s presence, there is revelation of the truth which makes pointing fingers impossible.
Depending on your chosen attitude, responsibility can be an honorable privilege or it can be a burdensome denial. Either way, it’s a very challenging choice. Some people are over responsible while others neglect responsibility for their actions. Taking responsibility starts in our thoughts. For example, often victims believe they were responsible for the bad things that happened to them. Having walked through the after effects of sexual abuse, I can relate to these confused thoughts and that’s why it’s a necessary process to understand who is at fault. In search of healing, I needed to accept the things I could not change while facing the whole truth so that God could transform my mind. This distorted thinking gave way to bad behaviour that lead too close to disaster . Whatever wrong thinking I choose to entertain is my responsibility just like Cain. God’s words to Cain before he chose to kill his brother, Abel were, “You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master.” Just like Cain, we have the ability to control sin so that it does not control us. However when you choose to do the wrong actions, you will empathize with Cain in that the consequences will be too much to bear. Your life will feel like a living hell. The good news is that at every point in your journey, “HOPE” is right in front of you because God causes all things to work together for the good of those who love Him. Turn to God and allow his ways to reassemble the messed up pieces of your life into something very beautiful.
